Thought I'd sit out PV this year.
A few months back, talked to Alan to see what he thought about the Carolena. https://www.hmlanding.com/boat/carolena
Wanna go? Sure! A few emails later and we had dates.
Looking forward to a great trip with some old and new buds!!!

Alans Buddy

Jigs no more.
I've enjoyed getting jigs made for our PV trips. Sadly Gary Puls is no longer making them. He was incredibly helpful and easy to work with!

And thanks Dan for the AT logos!

Our first trip on the Marla IV was Dec 2015

Last year, the weather and lack of local intel led to a cancelled trip.

Fast forward to now. We are 22 days out from go time!

Alan is still on the 10 day.

He'll have 19 days to get ready for this one.

Report to follow.

Here's this year's AT collectible.

Need to get a better pic.

Might have a few extras.

What does a trip like this cost?

I want to start saving.

New Bucket List item added, some lowered...
Buy it nice or buy it twice.

Doing it Alan style with adding in the tip upfront, it's $2200 a person. Six of us on this one. I figure it's about the same as flying to PV and doing Marla's. Marla's is a 3.5 day, this is 2.5.

Reasonable considering the accommodations seem to be Five Star.

Don't want to "invite" myself but I'd sure appreciate being put on the standby list!

Like Ben (or is it HasBen?) I'm taking a break from PV and Marla's. Last few trips I've made down there have been eventful but not productive. Marla's has significantly upped their prices and airfare from ATL has almost doubled in the past few years.
So I hopped a ride on the Carolena for a change of pace. I'll have to make sure my shoelaces are tied and my pants are zipped up on a 5 star yachtfisher like this.
One significant difference (other than accommodations) between the 2 trips is fish processing. Marla's does it on the boat and you hit the dock with frozen fish ready to fly home. With the Carolena you must schedule/reserve fish processing which has become a royal pita. Especially if you're flying cross country home same day.
Most of my extended family doesn't particularly care for tuna anyway. Their red meat of choice is beef.
Perhaps I could suggest catfish, hush puppies, and cheese grits for one of the Carolena meals. ;D
Annemarie would probably have a stroke. When in Rome.....
Looking forward to the trip.

Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground.

We'll see how this one goes and if we do it again, we'll let you know if we have a spot!
