I have started and then shelved this project at least 5 times. Originally it was gonna be a spinner, then it was gonna be a baitcaster rod. Then i started cutting levelwind assemblies off reels and decided to lay out the guides with that in mind. So I guess it's sort of a short version of a surf rod.

They call it a 7' 15-40# extra fast taper. And it really is an extra fast taper rod. As the guide layout suggests, all the bend is in the tip.

I didn't take a picture yet but the butt cap is the cork from a large bottle of patron tequila. I was so proud of the idea at the time. I didn't realize til I attached it, but it looks kind of... phallic. I am gonna add a trim band or something to break that up a bit.

I do like them a lot. I took a dremel to a BC grey one to get a polished 16M

I will say though that this is the first rod I did on my DIY wrapper, and I'll be honest some of the wraps aren't as tight as they should be. I suspect the fish won't care. But I do.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty happy with this one. It casts pretty dang well. Not quite surf rod range but I was throwing a 3/4 oz bucktail a good 60 yds.

Man I can't believe how quickly you've gotten so good at this. Inspires me to maybe have a go at it myself.

Yeah I can point to early posts saying there's no way im capable of that. Then posts saying yeah I'll try to build a well functioning rod but I'm not doing anything decorative because I'm not gonna be good enough at it.
Well I'm still not that great compared to some here, but I'm certainly more capable than I thought possible. Just gotta keep the focus on a well functioning rod. Looking cool is cool but that's not what we are here for.
