Hey all, been lurking and using the existing posts on this board to fix and refurbish about a dozen reels (mostly abu) that I found in my FIL's new cabin. I've loved every minute of the tinkering so thanks for all the knowledge here.

I've got one morrrum 5600c (0600) that looks damn near brand new. When I first started messing with it I couldn't get line to come out no matter what I did without a ton of force. Couldn't cast at all.

Took the whole thing apart, cleaned it all up including the bearings, relubed and replaced the drag washers with carbontex.

Well...it lets line out easy. Casts like butter...and won't reel back in at all. I see it TRIES to spin the reel when I crank the handle for a second but then the handle spins freely and doesn't turn the reel at all.

I broke it back down and don't see anything wrong or missing. Any ideas on what I messed up?

Thanks from a newb

Does the spool move side to side a lot in the frame while assembled?
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Nope

Welcome bounce!
Not familiar with the Morrum, but I thought about getting one awhile back. Sounds like either the pinion isn't engaging the spool(it's not going back into gear when you crank the handle) or the drag system is not putting any pressure on the main gear. Maybe something is installed backwards...?

Yes, I suspect the same thing as Gregg —- since it didn't do this before —- it is just something installed backwards or upside down.
