Hi Drisse

The UK is no longer a member of the EC. Read well the new Swedish customs import regulations, or preferably consult your local customs office.

www.verksamt.se/web/international/developing/import-and-export/brexit

Think that you have to pay the Swedish VAT only.

Thanks Wolli 🙂. Very appreciated. Seems like my best option. Will place an order. Got some friends in the UK. Maybe they can send them over as a gift ? Does anyone know if Shimano original IAR brarings have any rustprotection ?

boon

I'm almost certain a Talica driveshaft is not going to fit through an ARB for a Chronarch. But I am open to being wrong about that.

Drisse

Old thread, and it was a long time since I bought the IAR bearings for Talica 10. I finally found them in Finland. Not cheap, but I needed a couple at that time. I bought them with part.nr BNT4447.

I paid about $23 per bearing when I divided the shippingcost on the number of bearings I ordered. So the price on the ebayauction for ten bearings was really good.

ReelClean

Just measure them up, they are usually a standard size.
I keep these in stock and have most reels covered:
EWC1012, EWC1008, EWC1209, 1WC100914.
Specialist Daiwa reel service, including Magseal, MQ series body plates, and every other "improvement" that Daiwa Marketing (sorry... I meant Engineering) Dept comes up with!

Better quality stainless bearings (and roller clutches) will have better controlled  heat treatment and passivation (acid treatment) processes which will help some in terms of resisting saltwater corrosion.

These processes help create a more consistent anti-corrosion layer on the surface of the metal, but in the end it is still 440c grade stainless, and will corrode in the presence of saltwater, especially if not protected with lubrication.  But the more lubricant you put in a roller clutch, the more it will slip below its load rating.

I think that these treatments are what Shimano is probably referring to in their ARB marketing (ARB = Anti-Rust Bearing according to Shimano, or Already Rusting Bearing according to some customers :) ).

For roller clutches, I would definitely look for a high-quality manufacturer, but there is no special magic from Shimano.  They are buying bearings just like the rest of us.  I would expect that they buy the good stuff, at least for their better reels.

There are some newer stainless alloys suitable for bearings  that have better corrosion resistance properties than 440c (e.g., ES1), but I haven't heard of these being used in reels, and I expect that we would have heard some marketing news about it a reel manufacturer started using them.
