Brand new to this forum, so forgive me if this is a "dumb" topic.  In early 2004 I visited the Penn factory in Philly and was gifted some rods & reels. The reels are a 6500SS and a 5500SS. Neither reel has a serial number on the foot or side plate, but both do say "Made in the USA". The spools also have "Manufactured in Philadelphia.." I was trying to find out how old these reels were based on what I'd read about manufacturing dates found in the serial numbers.. of course with no numbers I can't find that out.  So, now I'm wondering if these reels might have been promotional items? or?

I have never seen serial numbers on Penn spinners, just Mitchell,DQ,& Cardinal? Mystic parts has some info when they were made but not an exact year.

1992-2005

Penn spinning reels never sported a serial number. You'll probably have to use the Mystic link that James offered to determine their age.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)
