I have 3-DQ 220 reels,2 have the small brass ball lever.1 has a larger silver ball lever.I assume the larger silver ball lever is a newer reel? I was just curious when it changed,I kinda like the brass one better when it's polished up,no biggie.

DQ changed a few things over each series of reels —-

The 220 Finessa was part of a (7) reel series and was introduced in 1967 —- and ran through 1973.

Then the next 7 reel series of "N" numbered reels were introduced in 1974.

If an angler could/would/could only afford (1) DAM Quick reel —- the tough 220 would cover most fishing conditions from small guys up to salmon & steelhead.

It is an outstanding reel in engineering, materials, and features.  They are not expensive —- but very high quality.

If restored and serviced properly —- they will go another lifetime.
