Is there an effective technique to join these two materials? Have tests been done with a dynamometer and with what results?

I just double up the solid braid, thread into the hollow for 5 feet, and do 3 nail knots close to where the solid enters the hollow.  Never tested.

Double uni, tested on large tuna. 

Tying or splicing a loop in the hollow and tying a loop in the solid then connecting them with a double or triple catspaw is strong and i use the L2L for my wind-on topshots, tested up to a 338# bluefin.

Jerry brown would slide solid into the hollow several feet and tie a overhand knot ehere the solid interd the hollow.

Loop to loop with a cats paw is also how a lot of boats replace braid on the kite set-ups. It's a proven technique

L2L is the strongest fastest and easiest.

If the nail knot gets cut it comes apart, I use 30-50 half hitches finished with a resoto knot.

I use another method, I practice a knotless binding as for the PR Knot system. Then I weld everything with cyanoacrylate glue such as Loctite 406. But my current problem is to find a connection that is at least 90% secure (real world data) between solid core braid and Hollow core braid.

How strong is a Bimini?  That would be the weak link on a L2L.
 I quit using glue over 20 years ago..

I always heard a Bimini was a 100% knot....

from the home made tests carried out on the dynamometer the average result is 86% on the breaking load of the braid. 10 Home made Tests 

Ok maybe a silly question but why would you need to do this? Just spool with straight hollowcore?

1. If u get braid tangles/birdnest/damaged line you can add on top of your existing spool of line.  I even use a section of hollow to splice solid braid on reel to new solid braid together.  Very economical.

2.  Adding metered braid (the 100ft color change kind).  The stuff (even the solid braid) is expensive and you only need one set of colors ie 500ft.

JB is the the same price for all colors, including metered.
