Lure Review

The Bellows Gill is a fairly recent innovation in soft plastic design from Japan. It's actually a slim worm with long ribs extending out to form an oval fish shape giving it a very unique and lively movement.

It's a bass lure that comes 2" 2.8" 3.8" 5.8", in most of the freshwater bass colors (pumpkin, bluegill, white, etc) and a slimmer shad profile. They can be rigged like any soft plastic or swimbait in a multitude of ways, on a jighead, dropshot, Texas, Carolina, etc. All are made with a built in scent that oddly smells kind of like stale Capt Crunch cereal to me, and the ribbed design holds a lot of fish attractant, which I have done to good effect.

I regularly use larger bass softbaits for Rockfish and Lingcod from shore using grubs and jerkshads with decent success. I'm always trying new critter shapes that could mimic bait in my area like perch, sanddabs, shrimp, pileworms, most are hit or miss, but these Bellows have been getting bit consistently for me.

PROS:
- They've been getting consistent action (for me YMMV)

CONS:
- Not very durable (Lingcod shred them in an instant)
But there is an extremely durable floating Elastomer version available.
- Not cheap, as most new JDM gear is.
Expect USA & China knockoffs soon.
