Looking at Penn 210 and a bit confused. First question is what is the difference in 210MS and 210MF? Thought at first the 210MS was stainless spool and 210MF was aluminum spool. However, some of the 210MS boxes list aluminum spool. Second question is are all 210 reels magged, and are they all magged the same way? Mystic Parts schematic states 210 without mag uses 98-505 gear sleeve, while a 210 with mag uses 98-155 gear sleeve. If these topics have been addressed in previous posts, please direct me to the link(s). Thanks!

We've been looking for an actual magged one for a while. Very solid reels.

Thanks Thorhammer. Only thing I found researching online was AI generated: stated MS was for speed, no mag, and MF was for finesse with mag. Also stated some specs about lure weights: one for heavier jigs, and one for lighter jigs. Don't recall which was which as I thought it sounded hokie. Now it makes more sense, especially considering what you've found, and the different parts on Mystic. The fog is lifting...a little.

MS for metal spool for saltwater; MF for metal spool for freshwater. They had different reel seats so the MF would fit on freshwater rods. This was done with the 209 as well.

And I believe the early 210s had the standard gear sleeve while the later ones had the fine threaded gear sleeve, 98-505, for more precise drag adjustments. I do not believe all 210s were magged.

Thanks AKfish. That makes a lot more sense than the AI blather nonsense. Also explains why I saw a box with freshwater stand printed on it.

Yerp- even the 9 had F and S stands. You already see, the 210 has bidder gears, I think 4:1 vs 209 and bearings. Great downrigger reel. I still use the 10's livebaiting.

Ok dumb question, what's the difference between the freshwater and saltwater stands?
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

The freshwater stand is smaller and flatter. A somewhat different shape
Do what you can with that you have where you are

I(prolly wrong)thought the 210's didn't come with a magnet. Only the 10 had one. Since they're
both in the Mag series, I must be wrong. I have the MS 210 with ball barings and the Jiggy 4:1 gears. I added a SS gear sleeve and  upgraded the drag stack. I don't think I'll ever get a level winder larger than this. level winder parts in general and the Penn frame don't seem tough enough.

Gregg, I'm starting to believe that Penn may not have made a 210 with magnet, and if they did, very few were manufactured.

Had to check on Mysticpennparts. Looks like they did but maybe that version is rare. A magged Penn isn't that hard to diy. But, never did one that was a levelwinder(there has to be room in the tail-plate). Doing it like Penn did, attaching the magnet to the back-side of the bridge might be a thing.
I have a 10 that Wayne(ElPescador) gave me. Beautiful little old-school baitcaster/mini-troller. They crammed just about everything into that reel, except a centrifugal cast control.
