Hey guys,

Taking apart a 220n parts reel for cleaning and spare parts mining and have a couple quick questions/problems:
1) Handle missng the pin but still won't come off easily. Soaked with WD-40 for an hour or so and still no dice.
2) Not really a problem but more of a question about the spool/brake spindle internals. Is there anything in there that shouldn't be subjected to soaking in solvents like mineral spirits or acetone. Should have probably asked this question before I cleaned my other Dams.

Thanks, Russ

Are you sure the pin was removed? Close inspection of your photo, it looks like the pin (maybe it's a substitute pin) is still there.

You are right! I just assumed because I could see light coming through both sides it wasn't there-doh! Drove it out and everything came apart like normal. I need to get some magnification when I do these projects since this isn't my first oversight/undersight. Thanks so much.

Thanks for posting the photo. It's a perfect example of why we always ask for pictures—they help us catch little details that are easily overlooked.

I wear something very similar to this when I work on reels. When I don't wear it it's because Fred is working on my reels. :)  Magnifier

2 reel tools that are a must for me are a headlamp which is also good for night fishing or crawling under a house any task where you need both hands & need to see. I use 3x reading glasses it just makes life easier working on reels.

Thanks guys--now I just need to find a magnifier for my brain as well as my eyes. BTW, any info on whether the spool spindle in second pic in solvent safe? Any hidden rubber or plastic parts inside?

Nice setup Joe. I definitely need something like that magnifying lamp combo. Just have convince the wife to let me have some permanent space for reel work inside the house now that summer is here. And neither this parts reel or the destination 220n have the little bumper you show. It is always something, lol.  Thanks again, Russ

:) Tidbit information about the 220 n .  It is the only N model that you can slip the trip assembly out whole .  That makes it easier to remove that itsy bitsy C clip in the wide open !
