I have always liked Eagle Claw rods & have both vintage + modern versions. My most recent acquisition is a trolling rod with a wooden handle that looks practically new.I haven't found any ratings listed on the rod other than "Champion" 7FT No MTR 7, that I can read.I see a lot of Wright McGill rods for sale in the Denver area.

Do we have any Eagle Claw gurus that could shed some light, are there are any codes or what MTR designates?

Seconding the need for Eagle Claw gurus. I also have a couple rods that need codes/ ratings deciphered.

Can I add to this request?  I have an EC MTR 6 1/2' trolling rod with the female ferrule that is broken off.  My assumption is that the ferrules are "mini" ferrules. Does any one know if this broken ferrule can be replaced?

Thanks,

Uncle Grizzly

I'm far from a guru, but recently did some research on a Wright & McGill rod which became Eagle Claw around 1965. I believe MTR means (M) Mini-ferrules, (T) Trolling, and (R) Rod. Mini ferrules came out around 1970 if I'm remembering correctly. The early W&M and EC lettering system was very basic. Also, I didn't see any W&M or early EC rods with power or action ratings on rod. Likely have to find a catalog or sales ad to figure those out. Saw some later EC rods with several letters and number, but can't offer any help with those.

Two rules on the boat
1. Fish where the fish are
2. See rule #1

Thank you MACflyer,I was TDY in Denver once but didn't think to look for any EC rods.I am sure they are plentiful.

We do not have any local stores that sell them anymore :(
