I have this 440 Ted Williams that you can see a lot of casting pit /porosity under the paint .
I will break this down in a couple post , because of the pictures involved from before and after .   This one is one of the worst casting to powder coat , if you want a clean look to it .

This post is after stripping paint and sandblasting .   This casting is pretty bad , I should just take the time and fill with JB weld .    But I want to try the outgassing powder primer on this casting for test purposes .

Spray outgassing primer on the castings , baked it 15 minutes at 325 . It is supposed to lock in the gassing .    This is what happened , after it cooled down it did sand it smooth and shot it again .  The second coat bubbled up also , the last two pictures .    A little better , but not what I want to shoot .

So now it is in the oven at 480 degrees for the next two hours  . I will see what it looks like and take more pictures . I know i will have to sand it down some and reshoot the primer again .

Wow!

That is some  bad looking metal there.  I assume that is pitting corrosion over time from a lower qualit casting. I can't  imagine that it looked like that right after the original casting.  If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't have the patience to try to get it back to a  a powder coatable condition.

How do the Quicks look once they are stripped?  The cast Penns  that I stripped would usually have a minor defect or two, but mostly had a good surface,

        Answer

I believe this casting is Dawia , Sear`s  Ted Williams  . This casting had green paint and than looks like black was on top of that .  Pretty sure Saltwater did the craters on the rotor and reel foot .
This is one of those reels that I am going to "learn on"  I wanted to find out how good and how much can be done with  anti gas primer . I want to see how much it can fill holes , or how many coats it take to do so !  Does it really seal in gas or what make the craters \ Volcano `s .

It was in the oven for 3 plus hours last night at 480 degrees .  It now is a brown color , I will hand sand it and reshoot it .  I want to see if it will fill holes and stop bubbling .   I will keep posting my progress on this one .

It is safe to say that I have seen well over 70 fully naked quicks in the last year .
For the most part , they are good castings .    The finessa series has parting lines that can be cleaned up , the hard part is the little nooks and crannies to clean out with a knife blade .
I will take pictures next time , as a go along .  The original paint on them takes longer to clean off .   The N series and the Champion series are much easier to strip paint off , and usually have less parting lines to clean .

I have only done a few reels that I wanted to go overboard with a polished look before powder coating them .   The rest of them are just shot and back to work for them , no glass case for them !     Pictures are a little deceiving , the way light hits them .  They look better in person .    One thing that I want to improve on , is shooting with less air pressure .

I just found out that my gun can be unscrewed mid barrel . It was bonded , there is no pictures or any directions to say you can do this .    That made the gun a little bit of a pain to clean it with just blowing air back and forth .   This gun does not have simple air channels .  There is a place that a piece of metal flake can hide for a while before it comes out !

That's a nice color combo.

For some reason it reminds me of a two-tone Ford or International.
