I have been fishing for over 70 years and have never come across anything like this rod. The lure or bait goes in the cup at the tip, then the knob on the rod is pulled back and locked to compress a spring inside the main tube. When released the spring inside the tube de-compresses and launches the bait or lure. Is this rod a homemade item or were these manufactured? Anybody?

That would be the first one I have seen like that .    Maybe used for under the bridge fishing with limited casting room .  There are slingshot vers.ions of this style

Midway Tommy

It's called the Jet Action Auto Cast and manufactured by Ross Inc. in Whitesburg, Tennessee. It originally had a white and green manufacture's label/sticker on the opposite side of the slotted spring area just in front of the reel seat. Looks like probably a Zebco Boy Scout spin cast reel on it.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)
