Can a jigmaster spool really be rare. I say yes. When Penn added an option for forged aluminum spool for the 500 & 501, it was silver, and the silver spool was very short lived, then turned to red. The silver spool jigmaster 500 seldomly pops up on ebay, and the silver spool 501 is rediculiusly hard to find.

So I saw Randy Pauly had a pure mint 501 silver spool, and couldn't resist. Now I'll be building a reel around this spool. I vision a full blown all silver Cortez Conversions 501. Like I really need another custom Penn, but just cant let this iconic 45+yo spool collect dust

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

I think just the first year or 2, Penn box labels described thier aluminum spools as forged aluminum, so I believe the earliest version of the red 500 and 501 spool fall into that catagory

Are you going to put that spool to use on something special ?

Cool
I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6...

Well, I have a silver Cortez 500 jigmaster, and a silver Cortez 99 jigmaster, so might as well complete the set and build a silver 501 jigmaster
