Has anyone installed the anti-reverse bearings in a 706? If so can you tell me what i need or where to look.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cone

If you are asking about a 706z it has a dog under the main gear in the case. Bob

This might give you an idea:

My opinion is for you to leave that 706 as is, I've seen some go for over $350 :-\.
Besides, the reel does just fine without it.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Thanks Sal. I didn't realize he was talking about a mod. Bob

I'm not so sure myself of what sharkrider is looking for, Bob. I just put it out there. :-\

Ive heard of people replacing the dog paw clicker or actually removing it. Then they replace the bearings with anti reverse bearings for instant lockup ? Actually there is a 706z on ebay where the guy replaced the bearings ,he's not the first person I heard did this. Wondering if it was wirth while or too much of a pain vs the reward.

I loked at Sal's link in the post. It's not as easy as just swapping bearings. There is alterations and machining to make it work. If thats what you want go for it. If it was mine I'd sell it and buy something new. Of coarse I've done alterations on lots of my reels. I sometimes do things just because I want to see if it will work. Bob

I have three, and thought it was an interesting idea, and would be benifical.

Yes, it's always interesting tying to upgrade these older reels, I do it all the times and learning on my limitations along the way.
This one is going to have to be your call, even though you have (3), these are hard to find.
There are "speculations" that Penn might bring  the 706 back into production. It will probably have the instant A/R already, but I'm not excited about it, I'm sure it will be of the same quality of the rest of their reels that they're coming out with, lately.
Here is one going off soon:

I'm sure this one will get close to what I mentioned above.
Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one, but that's me.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

True, not sure if it's worth it. Penn coming out with the 706's again is just speculation. I've talked to reps before and that's all it was is talk, what I heard was it was too costly to retool, etc. Personally I think they would make a bundle.
