Reel Repair by Alan Tani

Ok guys... fell off my kayak the other day and dunked my reels.  I have a Calcutta TE200, a Daiwa Sealine X50HA, and a Newell 338-5.  Where do I go for either video or instruction on how to clean these?

get an air compressor and blow the moisture out of the bearings, then drizzle any oil into the bearings, blow them out again, and then drizzle more oil in and leave it.  you don't have to take the entire reel apart.  just pull the spool to get to the spool bearings and pinion support bearings, and then pull the handle and star to get to the AR and drive shaft bearings.   obviously, a full tear down is preferred.  check stickies under these brands in the rebuild sections for tutorials to do a full tear down.  good luck

personally, I would dunk my reels in warm water first, then out, shake the water and repeat a few times.  Then I would do as Alan indicated.  I like to use warm water as it helps disolves the salt and wash it away.

You may want to add some "salt away" with your rinse water. Follow the dilution directions on the container. It is the stuff that they use to spray on your cars to wash the salt that they use on the roads during winter. then follow Alan's guidance.

Hey Alan, I have looked in the rebuild tutorials and cannot find one on the Daiwa Sealine X50HA. Any suggestions?  Is there a similar model I should look for that breaks apart the same?
