Ok I got a BG13 in today to be serviced. It really was a mess inside but got it all cleaned and back together. The one thing i have a question on though is the pinion gear.
When i pulled it out of the bearing and looked at it, the pinion had burrs sticking out all the way around it where the base of the bearing sat at. Is this Pinion damaged or is it made that way by Diawa to keep the pinion from moving when you tighten the spool housing.
Granted the pinion is only $1.99 direct from Diawa, but shipping is estimated at 7-10 days and if I can get the reel back to my customer sooner  than later, then that is best.

you can put it together and see, but yes, it sounds like that pinion gear is toast.
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

Well it works fine but there is a metalic whirrrr to it when it is cranked. It was doing that when the customer brought it to me...I had called Diawa and they couldnt tell me and said that their techs are not allowed to take calls from the public. I might just go ahead and get the new pinion see if there is a difference. if not the i will have on for the stock pile.

Here's an image of a BG 13 main/pinion gear which might help with your issue?

That is the way mine looks.Just there are burrs around where it goes from flatened to Straight gear. I will sand it and see if the noise goes away

Well i got the new pinion in the mail from Diawa today and when i compared it to the old one, sure enough it had been sheared back about 1/8". Placed the new pinion in and all the metal grinding noise is gone. She is now good as new.
