What kind of grease are you using? I only use Penn Blue. I smell nothing.

I usually just give mine a good wipe down. By not totally removing it you are leaving an extra protective barrier up on the reel.

I'm using Yamaha marine grease. I do leave a thin coat for trolling and live bait reel.
But for reels delicated for fish meat as bait, I prefer to eliminate foreign smell as much as possible.

Ahhh, you don't want to contaminate the bait with the grease smell. I see now ;D
I try to keep my bait in plastic bags in the cooler, so the chlorine in the ice doesn't contaminate it.
Have you tried any rubbing alcohol to get rid of the grease stink? I'm pretty sure simple green would do it, but then it would smell of that. :P

I think you're stuck with the greased smell.  If you don't believe me, smell your hands!   ;D

Wipe it with a rag that is impregnated with WD 40.  WD 40 is supposed to be a fish attractant so the smell will help.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

I keep a small bottle of Anise (I think thats how its spelled) oil in my fishing fanny pack (yes fanny pack), that I always wear when Im fishing. Ive been doing this since I first started fishing; it keeps my very dry/rough super masculine hands lubricated and masks smells.
