With reel repair now and customers coming in more often, I'm finding myself limited without shims. With so many varieties around, any one have a good list of sizes for me to order? This way I actually have to play with and makes my job easier.

Thanks guys

Have a look here, they sell them here so I guess these sizes would be a good start:

Specialist Daiwa reel service, including Magseal, MQ series body plates, and every other "improvement" that Daiwa Marketing (sorry... I meant Engineering) Dept comes up with!

Hedgehog studio has good variety but pricey in my opinion for just 2 washers. They are good to go buy for sizes

Buy a few rolls of brass shim stock in different thickness.  Cut shims yourself with a pair of shears.  You can also make washers.  It's not expensive and you will find many uses.  Shim stock is also available in stainless.

That seems like a good idea!! Thanks!!

I just get the most common shim sizes that I use from local reel parts suppliers.  (I use alot of Senator 10-16/0 brass spool shims, size 50,80,130 gear sleeve, pinion, spool shaft/thrust washers for Penn Internationals, and Shimano Tiagras.  There are really only about 9 or 10 different shims to cover the 50-60 different reel models here.  Everytime I buy parts, or place an order, I just try to buy a few extra shims, C clips, small springs, and the smallest screws just in case the repair shop gremlens decide to exact their toll ;)

I can do that as well. might do that on my next order from Pennparts

I make my own in a couple of different thicknesses, preferably out of spring temper bronze roll or sheet from McMaster-Carr.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)
