Hey all wondering if I could get some input on some issues that I am having with 2 of my reels.  The issues is when I am cranking at a fairly high speed then stop suddenly, the spool will continue to rotate for a bit and make a awful ratcheting/clicking sound.  This is happening to both a shimano scorpion 1500 and an old abu c3 5500 that I just picked up.  I only took apart the c3, regreased the gears lubed the bearings, and cleaned off old grease that was caked around the anti reverse thats in the side plate figuring that could be the problem, but there is still ratcheting when I stop cranking, this only happens when the drag is clamped down, if the drag is completely backed off it does not happen.  wanted to get on the water today to see how it casts, but the issues is bothering me, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

:o really? have they fixed this with the newer c3's? and if they have, could I get a modern IAR to remedy the problem?

alantani

that is actually the spool moving forward against the pinion gear.  if you take a look at the connection, it is designed to lock in outgoing direction and ratchet forward in the incoming direction.
