Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Welcome Trav from the SoCal Inland Empire!  Oddly enough, my first home reel repair was - A Long Beach 68 (1970's vintage, nowwhere near as cool as what you have) and it is a great reel to learn basics on.  To this day it is my shallow water halibut reel. - john

I've been cleaning, upgrading and working with reels since 1969, a sophomore in high school. I used to watch my father work on and clean up his Shakespeare and Pflueger reels. Due to those days of poverty, keeping our precious fishing equipment in order was a must! Fish was our steak for many years. Now, when I work on a reel or wrap guides on a rod I think about those days and appreciate what I have now.

For those who contribute often answering questions and doing the research for the rest of us, I thank you for your time.

I just joined the site after lurking for a couple years. I've been somewhat active on iFish (same username) and Alan has been kind enough to help me out with some reel questions and parts over the years. I've been getting more and more "serious "about ocean fishing after moving to the Oregon coast ~10 years ago, and purchasing a 19 ft. Arima ~5 years ago. My stable of reels has grown over the years, and I've resolved to get on top of my own reel setup/maintenance/repair.
