Alan once commented about Australia, having to many creepy crawlies, some people in outer Sydney, New South Wales, rang a snake catcher,  said they had a snake in there back yard, well the snake catcher, found 5 large red belly black snakes and about 120 small snake, the babies looked to be about 16 to 18 inches long, it was on last nights news, cheers Don.

Donny - I had to look it up, and it seems like most of the critters you have - these can put a hurt on you!  Welcome to Australia!  The article I read said while venomous (what in Australia isn't) they are generally not lethal.  Still would like to make it down there someday! - john

Here's one in Western Australia, near Exmouth.  The fishing makes it all worth while.
That mean looking thing is apparently not dangerous, but we found it at our accommodation.

One of my favorite authors, Bill Bryson, wrote:

" The book begins with a chapter that I have ingrained into my brain.  "It has more things that will kill you than anywhere else.  Of the world's ten most poisonous snakes, all are Australian.  Five of its creatures – the funnel web spider, box jellyfish, blue-ringed octopus, paralysis tick and stonefish – are the most lethal of their type in the world.  This is a country where even the fluffiest of caterpillars can lay you out with a toxic nip, where seashells will not just sting you but actually sometimes go for you.  Pick up an innocuous cone shell from a Queensland beach, as innocent tourists are all too wont to do, and you will discover that the little fellow inside is not just astoundingly swift but exceedingly venomous.  If you are not fatally chomped by sharks or crocodiles, or carried helplessly out to sea by irresistible currents, or left to stagger to an unhappy death in the baking outback.  It's a tough place."  (p 6)  That's just part of Bryson laying out the facts on the place to get his readers (mostly Americans) situated."

I saw one on the side walk when I was in Aus. I ran to get my camera and when I came back it was gone. Cool looking snake.

When I went to Australia we were warned "everything here can or wants to kill you".
Buy it nice or buy it twice.

H all, thanks for your comments, all very interesting, Cor, talking about snake near Exmouth, I wrapped a sea snake around the prop of our boat, it though the prop out of balance, , I stopped, place it into reverse, and the snake was cut into 4 pieces, each section was about 4 inches  across, mostly bruised with the proppaler, when your diving, the sea snake is very curious, they swim right at you, but there mouth is very small, if you have a vet suit on, there fangs are to short to penertrate as deep as the wet suit.
one of the most venomous snakes is the tiger snake, but ones again it has a small mouth and very short fangs, the tiger snake stay around the swamps most of the time, but our house at the time was on higher ground, and geting towards winter when they rabbinate on the higher ground, my wife, was cleaning under the eaves just below the guttering, and she looked down, n there was  a tiger snake all curled up right near her feet, gee I have loved to be a fly on the wall that day, cheers Don.

I think the gnarliest animals in Australia are the feral sheep. Despite all the above, and seemingly no natural weapons, they still manage to survive out in the bush.

Gotta be pretty badass.

Ha ha Jason, the sheep that manage to dodge a muster or two, finnish up with a very long fleece to carry around, I have seen fleeces 26 inches long, some time the fleece is partly shedded, so the sheep have to walk aukwardly to carry the wrest of the fleece around, and when you shear them they have trouble adgusting with out  it, so you have to prop them up against the posts in the let out pen, and they slowly get there balance back, also the lizard the cor posted, we call them bungara, they live on any thing they can find, they often dig burrows under the shearing quarters, and grab any scraps the cooks throw out, also when the shearing is not happening, there is generally roo shooter or fencing contract teams living there, the only time you find them dangerous is when the farmer, turns up with the ute full of dogs, there bungara will look for a tree to clime, and if your standing still, then your the tree, n they have mighty sharp toe nails, keep well cheers Don.
