I just discovered by the engine code it's actually a '75.

It's getting fire  with new coils/plugs & ran for 10 seconds with the old main tank I used
(No rust in it). This motor hasn't run in 5 years.I got a new tank/line NonE gas & oil.I tried the mechanic in a bottle just to get to the 10 second run  mark.

My next plan is to make sure fuel is getting to the carb & rebuilding it if needed.

My soninlaw & grandsons want to try a 15hp carb on it & I dont care to go any faster & like it original.

I tried to adjust the carb to a starting point & the lean/rich adjustment appears to be opposite than what I am used to?

Also,
This thing has always been hard to pull is that the nature of the beast, its a workout !

My son has a '83 35hp Evinrude (was my dad's). It usually starts on the 1st or 2nd pull of it's primed right.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

Well I started a post on this motor years ago & the 1st thing Joe said was it may be the kill switch.Joe was right...I have to list what I have done because this motor starts one pull everytime now,not bad for a '75.

When I began it wasn't getting fire
So I replaced the coils, plugs, points,& condensers.I had fire but no start.

I bought a rebuilt 15hp carb, new tank new fuel line, still no start.Recently I got a timing tool which I highly recommend makes setting the points perfectly  using an ohmmeter precisely when they just open at the timing mark. No feeler gauge needed.

I also replaced the flywheel woodruff key & verified I still had fire ,but no start. So I finally disconnected the kill switch 1st pull fired right up.I adjusted the carb & ran it
For 30 minutes off & on tweaking.I have learned alot about this motor during this adventure.I just ordered a kill switch surprisingly $50 was the cheapest new OEM ,some are  $100.

As my uncle used to say "I would drive it to California"

I drank a few celebratory beers in Joe's honor :d
