I just discovered by the engine code it's actually a '75. It's getting fire  with new coils/plugs & ran for 10 seconds with the old main tank I used
(No rust in it). This motor hasn't run in 5 years. I got a new tank/line NonE gas & oil. I tried the mechanic in a bottle just to get to the 10 second run  mark.

My next plan is to make sure fuel is getting to the carb & rebuilding it if needed. My son-in-law & grandsons want to try a 15hp carb on it & I don't care to go any faster & like it original.

My son has a '83 35hp Evinrude (was my dad's). It usually starts on the 1st or 2nd pull of it's primed right.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

Well I started a post on this motor years ago & the 1st thing Joe said was it may be the kill switch. Joe was right...I have to list what I have done because this motor starts one pull everytime now, not bad for a '75.

When I began it wasn't getting fire
So I replaced the coils, plugs, points,& condensers. I had fire but no start.

I bought a rebuilt 15hp carb, new tank new fuel line, still no start. Recently I got a timing tool which I highly recommend makes setting the points perfectly  using an ohmmeter precisely when they just open at the timing mark. No feeler gauge required.

I also replaced the flywheel woodruff key & verified I still had fire ,but no start. So I finally disconnected the kill switch 1st pull fired right up. I adjusted the carb & ran it
For 30 minutes off & on tweaking. I have learned a lot about this motor during this adventure. I just ordered a kill switch surprisingly $50 was the cheapest new OEM ,some are  $100.

As my uncle used to say "I would drive it to California"

I drank a few celebratory beers in Joe's honor :d

All my grandson has talked about for 2 weeks is taking the boat out. He said he has great memories from When he was 4-7 my son-in-law would take him fishing in it, so yesterday we made it happen.

We have a local Georgia Power reservoir lake Juliette that has a 25hp limit No jet skis allowed, not much traffic & campgrounds. It's been 10 years since we were there last. The boat is heavy, a '71 Sears 14/36 the 15hp carb was needed.

I had to remount my trolling motor Using  rivet nuts & I put a locknut on one screw for safe measure. I had this threaded rivet gun for years & 1st using it was great for this application I have no idea how I got in there last time to tighten the nuts. I also fabricated a storage mount in the shop for the new TM, gave SIL my old one so I had an extra mount MK-21.

All went well my 11 year old grandson was able to start the Evinrude one pull every time 0ur other 7 yr-old grandson was deer hunting with Dad & sister .

Great pictures, when they do things at that age they never forget, good happy memories, cheers Don.

Cool! A couple of things I never got to do as a kid, driving an outboard and hunting big game. Nice shoulder shot. The kind of things that can build character in a youngster.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!
