What would you guys estimate that the max drag would be on this reel?  I would like to get 15# out of it.

I believe the tank can do better ;D
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

I'm pretty sure it's 28lbs, at least that's what I heard from a guy who has one

Well I think that 15-20# will not be a problem then!  On the center console I am not comfortable with much more than that depending on seas.  Its nice to know that I can crank it up when on a head boat with taller rails.  After going swimming in stand up tackle vs. a 100# yellowfin a couple of months ago I have become conservative with high drag settings!

DaBigOno

I agree with you Jason.  20 pounds of drag with a mad 100 pound tuna on the other end can be a lot after fighting it for a while stand-up.

So it is a no-go on the SS 113h gear sleeve.  The diameters, teeth and thread sizes are identical, but as you can see the length is considerably different.  Oh well.

alantani

but might it work anyway?  :-\

JasonF

No, the pin hole in the SS sleeve is in the wrong place.

Ron Jones

Alan,
Do you have any of the sleeve's left with the pin hole in the wrong place? Stranger things have happened, it might fit. If not, it would be easy for a shop to cut that hole.

alantani

i do not.  for this one, i think the stock gear sleeve is the best option.   :-\

Totally different, also brass so no gain.
The HN gear sleeve is 2 piece and the MTL is one piece

So why the hell did Penn stop making this reel anyway? Seems like it would have been a great reel.

Bunnlevel Sharker

Production was stopped due to lack of demand
