Thanks guys and gals:) ! Aiala, that is a P16. A P21 would be a 501 Jigmaster.

Aiala, you could use the P16 on all reels with the same size plate, of course you would also need the 29L-100 spool and the 29L-146 for the Squidders.
The P16 will work on Beachmasters-Baymasters- Monofil and Squidders and so will the stainless steel spacer bars that Alan is working on at the moment.
I like stainless steel better than aluminum ;).

You need to convince Alan C. To make SS frames with those side plates he is rolling out!!
Wow Sal, you made a very cool reel, and I somehow sense a few others may want to do the same now that you have once again paved the way.
BTW, how did you get all the inside parts so nice in that first pic ?? I never knew a bridge plate could look like that. ;).....and yes I do happen to own 2 cavity molds for penn reels, I only wish I could put them to use :D.
I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but if Alan made stands like Newells then the 501 size would fit a 501, 146 and 49 and his bars would still work. I'm guessing that the price of his stand and two bars would exceed the price of a Tib frame but then again they would be stainless, who doesn't want that?

Nice Monofil Sal 8)
Marc..
No interest in swapping out the 13-155 with a 13-200?
Not much to gain on this one, it will do just fine as is. If I can't find the correct pinion, I'll usually place in what I have, I do it all the times.
There is good and bad in everything, I personally believe that using a pinion without the ring will able it to slide in and out of the spool shaft much easier. Unfortunately, on some reels it's needed for reinforcement.
Sal
The first few times I saw a grey monofil I didn't care for the color. Since seeing two of them on this forum in the last few weeks, they are starting to grow on me. I'm considering adding some colored monofils to my collection. You guys are becoming a bad influence on me. Nice reel, Sal

Sal, is that handle the 9 degree or 18 degree off set handle?
With a 5+1 drag stack the Monofil can easily be fished as a 30# reel, here's a photo of 13-1/2# of smooth drag, I could get more by forcing the star but do not see the need. A 10-49 star is on my list for the next Scott's order.

I agree 18 degree is way to much! You must have a supplier because I haven't been able to find a 9 degree in a long time!

No idea, I'm fishing mine as a 25# reel so a very smooth 8# of drag is all it will see. The narrow frame and heavier 37-49 posts will help, it has steel gears.

I used to purchase those 5 for $100 with free shipping, but this was a while back, maybe 3 years. Just ask the sellers, you never know and it won't cost you anything for asking.
I only have a couple on my personal reels, I gave most away, I need to stop doing that. ;D

3 years ago makes sense, I have asked everyone and they have all switched over to 18 degree. That one you have there is a jumbo size one. A little to big for a jigmaster! I'll keep asking around. If not I know a place to get great handles, just A little pricey.
Alans handles are great. I'm just looking for a silver one. I'm just to picky haha ;D
Again, beautiful reel!
Jason, i picked one just to show you 9 degree, he also has the smaller sizes. the ones on my larger Senators are 4 1/4", from the 6/0 and down, they're 3 1/2".
You should have no problems finding those I always see them.

I had a 13-155 pinion split in my 27 (3+1, SS gear sleeve, Tiburon frame, 24-56 handle) somewhere between 9 and 11 lbs drag after one season; had to dial it back down to 9lbs for the next couple of seasons.. Eventually found the reinforced 13-200 to be a perfect replacement. Fish the 27 all last season with no damage at 11lbs drag from top of spool. With about 1 lb drag coming from the rod and guides, total drag was about 12lbs--30% rule for 40lb test.

There are other things to take into consideration, as for instance, your line could have been caught on the side of the spool, that would usually do it, lifting the rod hard, bad drags and so on.
I'm not saying any of these things happened, I'm just saying that a few things could make it happen besides going over the numbers.
I personally believe this would be a good 10Lbs reel.
here is something I found here from Pompano Joe, the 209 has the same pinion as the one you've split:

Sal
I've caught Chinook salmon in the 30#-45# range with 10 and 209's reels with the same (209) or similar size drags and brass gears. My "plan" for today is to dive into my gear pile and find a useable 13-200 pinion gear.

Yes, the 13-200 would be a much better choice here, as porthos suggested. It does make sense, if it's out there and it fits, why not.
The reel should still be a 10 Lbs reel though.
The 100 would handle a little more, I like them both very much.
I hijacked a 29L-100 spool from one of my 100's to make the 25 a "proper" width reel but will be fishing them both for the same application, 3#-30# rockfish and lingcod under 50' deep on a 15# or 20# rod set at 10# of drag. I'm also thinking it will work for makanaw. Once the drag gets over 14# it spikes above where I want to pull with the line I have on the reel.
It looks like Mo is going to get more of my $ soon.
Okay, so ever since I saw Sal's amazing grey Alto Mare Hybrid Monofil 25, I had to have one, too. SO...
1 green Monofil 26 from eBay + 1 P16 Tiburon frame from Chowderpuff + 1 29L-100 spool + 1 13-200 pinion as recommended by Porthos + upgraded Keta drag stack (thank you, Lee!) + a bit of tinkering, and PRESTO:

That right there is sweet... Prolly a plinth-er.
Super nice looking reel..!! Did you add some heat shrink tubing on the eccentric lever? I do that on reels to protect the frame.
Keith
I also have plenty of the T-bar handles and will see if the size Sal is showing 9 degrees. They cost me $17.50.
Aiala, that is one sweet reel. The competition is now on ;D.
Love these little reels.
Sal
Thanks, fellas!
Keith, that's actually some 3/16ths black vinyl tubing I bought from Terminal Tackle. (They sell it to make mackerel tubes.) I cut off a little piece with a razor blade, stretch it open with my needle nose pliers, then slip it onto the lever before it contracts back. Works like a charm! I do it on all my reels, not just the blinged ones. :)

Sal and Dominick,
I believe it's in the "Guys' Handbook" to NEVER argue with women in matters of color application for aesthetic effect. Just nod and smile to whatever they decide or select. I learned the hard way :o after unintentionally triggering a thorough and lengthy oratory from my wife about the differences between "fuschia" and "purple" ::) ...never, never, ever I will be doing that again.

When your wife asks you about your opinion on a color -- presumably a new color for a room, ceiling, matting for a painting, etc. -- there is more than just "nodding and smiling" your approval to whatever she says.
She is testing you -- and there is a process (gauntlet) that you must partake in carefully, with sincere interest, participation, and remember -- when you think a decision has been made -- that there is still much to come that must be considered.
Never condescend -- that will nullify any opinion you might offer from that point forward.
Instead, take a minute or two to consider her statements and ideas -- then come back with a question that is non threatening -- such as, how would that color blend with the new sofa? Or have you considered different times of day such as direct sunlight, moonglow, evening light, etc.
Tell her you trust her good judgement when it comes to decorating -- and am grateful she is so good at doing it.
And you appreciate her involving you in the decision -- but in the end, you will certainly appreciate the time she took in getting just the right colors to blend perfectly.
Best,
Fred
