Sal
I'm jumping the gun a little, as I haven't spoke with Alan, but October 9th is the 1 year anniversary of Sal's passing.  We will be in the middle of our trip but I think it is fitting to spend a few minutes and honor Sal, a friend, mentor, and inventor that we all have benefited from.   I would like to take a minute to say a few words and make an offering to the Alto Mare (High Seas in Italian).  Would anyone have an objection?

In my old job we all had a brass key chit (think like a quarter size coin) with our names stamped on it.  We would leave these on the casket of a fallen warrior.  Maybe bring something like that along to offer to the seas.  And maybe a gallon of Dago Red to toast afterwards.   I'm open to ideas, and have Chief (USN retired) Ron Jones working on a few words to say.

And if you would like to send a token pm me for instructions and I will ensure it is donated with mine.
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Perhaps take the Tank?

I'm the old school single-speed guy on these trips, so I'd be more than happy to fish the TANK in Sal's honor.

If nothing else, I'll try to land tunas on my Monofil 27 and Mag Power 970 in his honor.

Do what you can with that you have where you are

alantani

Sal loved Magpowers. He sent me a 970 plate he double-dogged and I plan to try to fish it if I can build the reel before  I go to OBX next month. I have a 980 as one of my standard drum reels in any case.

It just so happens that Bill is planning to come by and see me to pick up a few "necessary" items for the trip, and The Tank is sitting on my workbench as well and is ready to rock and roll! - john

Assuming the boat has room, I think it would be most appropriate. I can reach out and see if I can get a plaque, otherwise I'll get one made.

There is a lot of symbolism in this, it is important to do it right.

I will get the plack and the Bible. I will also modify the presentation to be more Sal centric and less about combat, which I feel is appropriate.

Chief can you assemble a list of items needed, this way we all can bring something for the display.

Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.
