I have about a hundred. Wife can't complain, she has an equal number of handbags. Brinkmanship at it's finest.

To her credit and my annoyance my wife is an extremely frugal person who almost never spends a penny on herself, and when she does she feels bad about it and sometimes needs to be reassured that it's ok to be happy about a purchase.

Alan's steel handle blade arrived today. I'm happy about that purchase.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Your wife and my wife are cut from the same mold. Copper wire was invented when she and her brother and father were fighting over a penny.

Not many by hoarding standards. Not "complete" by collecting standards. More than I need by fishing standards, which is my primary motivation.

Paul, I like that answer. I second it.

It is a slippery slope! I've tried to keep some practical purpose under my infatuation with these cool little machines. The last few years have been disruptive, however, and I've found reel work accessible and meditative. So, I guess that's my excuse for slipping into the collecting camp. I'm learning a lot, enjoying the heck out of it, and will lose money in the enterprise. But, I do have an interesting and capable stable of ponies to saddle up and ride out on.

I started with collecting,,, EVERYTHING, but like most I began to concentrate on certain categories. I began the cleaning and service thing by doing my own reels and destroyed a few in the process. After a few years I began to have a few friends asking me to service their reels. And it began. I now do service as a pastime in my shop. I don't charge nearly enough to make anything but I enjoy the quiet time. No music, no TV, just my thoughts and a reel in need. I find it very relaxing. Sometimes challenging and sometimes even frustrating, but I seem to always make it work.

If you could count all of your reels —- you probably don't have enough yet.
