I was still a salmon guide in the summers and going to school the rest of the year for my fisheries tech diploma.

I was teaching in a 35 student, K-12 school in rural Alaska. I taught everything from elementary science, to algebra II, to foods and nutrition, to graphic arts, to British literature and everything in between.  Once had my foods class cook up lynx blackstraps like weinerschnitzle.  We named it Kitten McNuggets and it was delicious.
And fishing a lot.
Nine of the eleven voices in my head are telling me to go fishing today.

This forum would be so much LESS fun and also less informative, if we all stuck to the topic at hand. Almost all the cool/weird/interesting stuff I've learned here has come from an off-topic tangent.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

LOL so in order to continue with the off-topic I will disagree with your sentense.

I found this forum pretty informative and helpful with the topics where a direct question about a reel or rod is made and someone answer that question or help with the problem in a serious tone, now, in the other hand about "fun" in the forum,  well a direct answer to a direct question is not fun at all but helpful, an off-topic theme within a thread can be fun sometimes I agree.

 For me 1987 was a game changer. I quit my HVAC job, and went to work high mountain logging. Very physically demanding, but lots of good memories working with a crew of hard working men, that became good friends of mine

Ex army SIGINT type here. In 1986 I was moving from being posted to one of our Signals Intelligence stations in Inuvik, North West Territories (Canada's arctic) to Sunny and warm Kingston Ontario.

  Joe, I recall chatting with a friend that raced those hydros. I called them mini hydros, and he instantly corrected me, saying theyre not mini hydros, they are "limited" hydros. He said the big ones are "unlimited" and the smaller ones are "limited". Guess the word limited, was kind of an insult. The limited hydros are loud and go like a rocket ship. Been to many local limited hydro races and very fun to watch
