Oops sorry, someone else already gave you my suggestion.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

It would help if you measured the drag with a scale and told us how much it was. "Seems to be really low " is hard to quantify. 3/0 Penns don't have that much drag anyway with stock washers.

I also have to agree.  Some of the jigmaster and 3/0 reels that I've worked on have kinda weak drags.  I happen to have a jigmaster, that to my surprise, has kind of strong drags.  :-\

Anyway, we need a little more information....

question:

1.  When you originally had the 3/0 reel, was the drag strong?...and then it became weak overtime?

2.  Did you buy the reel "used" and the brakes were junk from the get go?

I'm asking these questions to assess if you have all the parts that the reel originally had? Or did someone else touch or change any parts without you knowing.

Knowing the answer to these questions can make all the difference.... ???

Got it used and the person before put in a new drag and that's all I know. I have a few Penn delmars that would stop a semi in its tracks. That's why I'm not understanding about why this thing has so little drag

Are you sure the drag washers are carbon fiber? Maybe they are just a set of old fiber drags that were greased. Is there a carbon fiber washer under the main gear? Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.

Get yourself a new set of CF for in the gear & one under the gear & grease them with Cal's. 6-309 for in the gear. Maybe someone can chime in with the # for the under gear washer. It might be a 6-155.

Were can I get them? IV heard of people doing a 5 stack set up. Does anyone know about this set up? I also want to ad Ss double dogs and Ss gear sleve and eventually get a tib frame.

As of right now you can only have a 3+1 setup. Drag washers you can get from Scott's (MysticParts) AT has the S/S sleeve, S/S dog, & the under gear washer.Just send him a PM of what you want & give your address. He might even have the drag washers. As far as double dogging better check around this site for how its done. Its not a job for a novice. Test the water before jumping in with both feet. As your ability progresses you can modify as far as your check book can take you.         Rudy

Hold on now!
A Delmar stopping a semi in its tracks. I hope its HO scale!
I got a 14/0 that will stop a train in its tracks.

IV done double dogs on reels before. They are tricky but not hard.

How is it that you couldn't figure out the problem with your drags then. If you did double dogs before then you know where to get parts then & can make that reel stop a truck also without any help. I guess you also know there are no 5+1 drags for a 112h unless you developed them yourself. Did you also create a nonexistant problem. How about photos of your work?  ::) ::) ::)

Look at the main gear and see if the insert is loose. By "insert" I mean the ring in the gear that actually touches the gear sleeve. If it is loose; that is, if you can turn it at all, you'll get the symptoms you are seeing.

I am hoping to have a 5+1 drag stack in a couple of weeks.  I will be testing it in the next couple of weeks to see what it can handle, or what the steel gears can handle.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D
