If the threads on both sides of the main gear, where the handle screw in, go all the way to the outside. You need a new pivot to change from right to left hand retrieve. On the newer style gears the threads stop about a 1/4 inches from the end. That handle will screw in either side. It's a good idea to buy a pivot screw too. I've broken several trying to get them out. Bob
Have 2 on order waiting for them to arrive with my other parts. The one in my 7500ss is seized.

Picked up my 850SS yesterday. Was stiff as a board to wind, took the cover off & no wonder. Redeeming feature is it has bronze gears which I will probably install on my 8500SS.

Dunk it in vinegar for an hour or so, I got a 320gt last year that was green and solidified inside and after a good soak it was turning fine. I sold it a month ago.

Got it sorted with some carb cleaner, soaking the bronze gears in white vinegar though, they come up like new. Cautionary tale, don't soak steel & brass in the same vinegar it turns the steel black.

Hi Everybody,

Still waiting on my parts from Scott's. They say international shipping can take up to 8 weeks (ordered October 10th). There is not a lot more I can do until they arrive. I have noticed that the service from NZ post has gone downhill & read in the news they are cutting another 200 jobs, so deliveries will probably get even worse. Don't want to start my 850 & 8500ss until I have put the Red Baron back together.

I hope so too, they still haven't arrived have contacted Scott's & they say it can take up to 8 weeks. I know of other people in New Zealand who ordered parts later than me & have already got them. (10 days delivery). I'm just going to have to wait it out, but I have a sinking feeling they have been lost in transit. They were ordered on the 10th of October.
