Any suggestions on selling or upgrades availability

Shark Hunter

The 114H is a very capable reel.
The upgrades are as abundant as your wallet will allow.
Stainless gears, sleeve, insert kit, aluminum frame and handle upgrade will put it over the top.
Selling it will depend on its condition.
Just a standard upgrade of the drag stack is really all you need to tangle with some big fish.

Sort of depends on what kind of fishing you want to do.

If I keep it I want to use it for shark maybe tuna run like 60 or 80 pound but the upgrades are pretty pricy and I can pretty much get a new reel for that much .what would I really need to upgrade to use it for tuna besides drags.

Considering what you'll be using the reel for, you will be better off with the upgraded 114HL.
upgrading it with the custom insert, ss sleeve and Pro Challenger gears will set you back appro. $160.
The reel will be unmatched in that price range.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Shark Hunter

I picked up another 114H recently. It is mainly going to be a bait rod for a trot line in the surf. All it will be getting is an aluminum spool, stainless sleeve and a 7 Stack from Bryan.
If You want to use that reel for Shark and Tuna, I think these two upgrades will be needed.

For 60-80# fish just add one of Alan's handles and fish it.

You will likely  want a 7 stack from Brian (w/delron undergear washer), a SS yoke, and dog.  You should be able to get what you need from Dawn at Smoothdrag.

here is the thread on Brian's drag stack...

Get yourself some Penn Blue, and Cal's drag grease as well (if you don't already have some).

Dawn should be able to get you most of what you need.

You may want to check out handle upgrade options from Alan Tani, Dawn, or Adam as well.

I don't think you'll be winching big ones in with 3.25:1 gears! Everything else sounds good but overkill... Go for it!

Why not Mark? It has been done for many years. Yes, I know a two speed would make things easier, but don't count this one out.
Penn knew what they were doing, all of their single speed Senator reels are well balanced.
These numbers are very close:
retrieval:
113H = 30" per crank ...3.25:1 ratio....with the custom set  4:1      ( 34" per crank)
114H = 30" per crank.........................with the custom set 3.25:1  ( 33" per crank)
115L = 30" per crank......2.5:1............with the custom set  2.8:1   ( 33" per crank)
116  =  30" per crank......2:1
118  =  30" per crank......1.6:1

The new custom 3.25:1 gear set is a tad faster, Accurate showed us they'll do just fine.

Wicho, look around, there is lots of info spread out.  Here is another you might want to consider as well:

The drags will be extremely smooth at 30-35 lbs

If the 2.8:1 gears get you 30" per crank the 3.25:1 will get you 35". If you can crank on 60-80#ers with that then more power to you. To each his own but personally, I'm in low when it gets to be a tug of war.

My 114hl has a Tib frame and I use it for trolling. If it were narrowed I'd want the 3.25's for yoyoing. 3.25:1 in a 6/0 is about the same speed as 4:1 in a 4/0.

Yup! it's up to the individual.
A little longer arm will slow it down a bit while giving it more cranking power.
