The mountains of East Tennessee, especially the nearby Smokies attract color seeking tourists from all over.  Unfortunately there hasn't been much color this fall.

So these were from two years ago.  My wife and I have intended to go up in the higher ground to take some scenic pics for a couple weeks but looks like we need to wait a few days.

All pictures were taken right here on our property except for the river which is about half an hour away.

Not mine but my wife sent me these from Zion about 7 hours ago. Might not be exactly autumn pics. but they are from autumn.

Great pics, Big Tim.  l've been to Zion National Park going on 40 years ago.

This isn't a fall picture, but was taken from my sister-in-law's front yard a couple months ago.  Walden Ridge in background.  The pond is a little over half an acre and 18' in the deepest spot.  7 or 8 minute walk through the woods from our place.

First Fall colors around the Cabin is the wife's mantle display that she changes every 3 months for the seasons.

Second is the walnut, apple, and oak trees starting to turn golden and red.

Third is the 25 cords left of split wood tarped and ready for folks to pick it up and use it -- free!

Fourth is the upper hallway outside the inside shop stacked and lined with reels ready for Winter service, restoration, and repairs.

Here is about 250 pounds of Penns, plus another 275 DAM Quicks in the shop, and another 475 Mitchells, plus assorted ABUs, Cardinals, Shimanos, etc.

This doesn't count around 475 old complete vintage reels that will be used for art deco cabin lamp bases.

Took around 2200 spools out of the upper inside shop to the outside shop in order to have room for these.

It is more important to have these at hand to build out promised reels for friends -- and the spools can be easily sourced even if it is snowing -- just by going out to the other shop or storage container.

Easing up a little on the wood cutting -- maybe just a couple of hours a day.  Transitioning to working on reels the rest of the day to get caught up on client repairs, builds, and services.

Appreciate everyone's patience.

Like Jonathan told us, this tree mortality deal will take 3 years out of our life -- 2 down, 1 to go.

It is indeed Autumn...

We are planning a trip with the camper and boat over to the Eastern side of the Sierras this month, hopefully.

If that happens, we will go over through Sonora Pass, so we can get some pics of the Miles of up-canyon Aspens as they turn golden.

Best,

Fred

Festus, are you familiar with an East Tennessee place called Albright Mountain?

festus

I've heard of Albright Grove up in the Smokies, may be the same mountain.

Festus, your neighborhood looks like nice country.  Only been to Tenn. once, and that was near Fort Donelson.

Big Tim, a couple of those Zion pics look more like Bryce Canyon, but I ain't been out there  for quite  few years, so I could be wrong.  Beautiful wherever they are.

My Gr Gr Grandpappys little brother founded that place.  He operated the only grist mill in a hundred miles.  charged folks 10% to grind their grain.  to bad its no longer in the family.

Interesting.  There are a few high elevation streams in that area that hold native brook trout.  Rainbow trout aren't native to Tennessee, but have been stocked numerous places.  Most likely that grist mill was situated on a trout stream.

These Mexican Sunflowers popped up voluntarily among the spent tomato patch.  Most likely birds scattered the seeds.

Festus, those Mex Sunflowers are a big hit here too--Monarch butterflies love 'em.

Couple fall pics: one is some sumac in a garden we have & other is Ginneala maples in our backyard (a little past their peak & I'll have to get that purple martin house down for winter).

Gonna try & wet a line tomorrrow; we'll see what the trees look like.

Happy Fall Y'All.

You guys 'er makin me homesick for the main land. Favorites: Aspens in the Rockies and Dogwoods in Oregon. In the sub-tropics our foliage(as well as tides, temps., daylight length, water temps.) don't change to much.
Here's a pic. of my pet chicken(a jungle cock sub-species) "kutchi". Already posted pics. on Fred's Sunset thread, but this's as close as I can come here to Fall colors.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!
