Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Maybe put that in an old fender puller. The sliding weight will work great.
I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Lee,

What size/size's of sheetrock screw are you using?

Leo

Keta

#20
The size depends on the bearing but I usualy grab the first screw I see, smack it with a hammer a few times and shape it on the belt sander keeping the metal cool.  The one in the photo is a #12 I think.

A micro slide hammer could be made using a long #12 allen screw.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Thanx Lee for those extra details in making the puller (very helpful).  Also thanx for the idea of using an allen screw (a good one should be very strong).

Lee,

I re-read your thread and you state a long allen screw used as a micro slide hammer.  Do you mean an allen wrench?

Leo

Keta

No, they are sometimes called socket head or allen head capscrews.

Like these but with a 3-4 inch unthreded section for the slide.  http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/socket-head-cap-screws/screws/fasteners/ecatalog/N-8n7

Meeting up with my brother next weekend with  material to make a few.  I don't think we need ever size, but was thinking 2 mm, 4 mm, 6, mm, 8 mm would be sufficient for most applications.  Therefore, the set will consist of 2 pullers.  What do you guys think?
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Keta

2 should cover most bearings.
