Just found these pics in my photobucket album as I was trying to post those pics of that bad pinion gear. Some of my restoration/refinish/repair/custom work.....

My guess is most of us that play with reels also play with guns. Nice Pics

alantani

that's probably true.  we are having that discussion right now.

Beautiful work Joel - someone in France must be missing a walnut tree.

They are really sharp. Sorry not against guns but don't hunt or target shoot.

I do like nicely finished wood.
I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Very nice work Joel, yours or customers? That semi- automatic Browning in the case used to get on my nerves, I'm not crazy about that one.
Very nice.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Some were mine until I restored them, some were customers. Only one of them did I ever sorta keep- gave the pretty Remington 700 to my father so I guess it is still in the family. The only few guns I own I purposely left ugly and rusty so I could keep them- once they get restored- they get sold.

That A5 was a fairly rare two-barrel set in the original luggage, I had no idea what I had until the very end of the auction and bidders went nuts.....was a very good Christmas that year

Maybe after my surgery- having a tumor removed from my neck and meanwhile I have very little sensation in my hands and fingertips so fine detailed work is a no-no right now. EVen working on reels I am constantly dropping screws and and other little bits ......

Does it need new wood or just repair/refinishing?  Model 24 is not real valuable these days so it is fine candidate to refinish vs the cost of new custom wood could easily surpass the value.......most guys would be surprised how easy it is to refinish them, something most folks might enjoy doing themselves if they gave it a chance

Joel:  Good luck on the surgery.  I have a Browning 30-06 Safari grade.  Browning used to come with a high gloss finish.  While I liked to look at the high gloss finish it reflected too much light for hunting.  It was like shining a mirror in the woods.  The wood was French walnut.  I sanded off the finish.  I carefully used some paint remover in the diamond pattern.  Then I sat around in the evenings giving it a hand rubbed finish with linseed oil.  It was beautiful.  I love the look of hand rubbed oil finish on wood.  Your work in the photos is primo.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Good work! Beautiful furniture.  Bob

Joel,
Gorgeous Work! Only problem is you'll have to sell your reels to buy ammo ???
I have a close friend who does SWAT and other jobs for the DA's office, and he told me tonight that they may be cutting range time due to high ammo prices.  He bought a case of .223's for 120% higher than last year for personal consumption.  He said he'll be downsizing soon if this keeps up. Uggh! nothing like politicians >:(
Again, beautiful work and best of luck with the surgery!
