Hi,

Yeah, that was my concern.... But I hoped that someone had figured out a method.  If the pictures are accurate this reel has seen minimal use, so the hope is that they aren't bad.

Cheers!

Possible that putting the bearing cup in boiling water might expand the cup to get the keepers and bearings out. Surprisingly big ball bearings are used in this reel.
Mystic reel parts has these, expensive though...

Yeah, those prices are what actually prompted the post.  In the end it won't matter when I get the cortez kit anyway, but just checking it out.  I won't be able to invest much in the reel for a few months so....

Cheers!

I've had good results using drill bit that fits snugly into the bearings ID, and a nail with a bent tip slid down the groove in the drill bit to hook under the bearing cover and yank it out. Same process for the bearing itself but odds of pulling cover and bearing at once are limited. Also plan on destroying the bearing on the way out with the forces involved. You might not damage it, but assume you will so you can only be pleasantly surprised. I posted a thread on the method a few years ago. It was under tools and lubricants section.

Here's a picture of 2 that came out of a 146, next to a standard size for Penn models of the same general size. Still in ok shape if you need 'em. There really wasn't any discernible difference between these and the new ones.
What's up with all that steel on the outside?

Wow. That's interesting. Like I said, they should be fine till I replace the side plates, but I very much appreciate the offer. I'll know more when it gets here. Songbirds today from Ukiah to Santa Rosa so won't be long. Should be my new halibut killer.
