I got married in '84. In '86 I was Skiing in the winter and hiking/backpacking in the summer. Working the rest of the time building systems to go in restaurants to help with inventory control, purchasing, labor scheduling, etc.

Late to the party but i was 3 years old, living in a little mill house that mom and dad rented. He was a framer, she was a receptionist for Converse. We moved a couple years later and I barely remember that house.
I do remember picking up a canned beverage off the kitchen table and taking a swig off the nastiest drink I'd ever had -- a slightly warm Budweiser.

I might argue that even an ice cold Bud is nasty.

Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

In 86 I gave up on living in Santa Barbara and was back in the Pomona Valley selling furniture in Montclair.

In 1986 I was living in Tupelo, MS. Still one of the best places I've ever lived  (and I've lived in 8 states from Richmond to El Paso). Only downside is that is where I met and married wife #1.  :(
I started the year as a sr engineer in the garment industry over 5 manufacturing plants scattered across NE MS. Made mostly work clothes, lab coats, and scrubs.
Spent most weekends flying with the National Guard in an OH-6 helicopter ferrying brigade staff all over the state.
Did very little fishing due to work, family, and military obligations. Did fly around numerous Corp of Engineer personnel who were supervising the construction of the massive Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway project.
My daughter was born in March. I turned 37 in June.
Due to massive competition and pricing from imports, the US garment industry was downsizing and moving to Central America. I wasn't interested in either a foreign assignment or a demotion.
In November I did a career swing and went to work for Cooper Tire Company as an engineer. Retired from there 25 years later.
My son (now deceased) turned 2 in November.
All in all, 1986 was an above average year for me. Nice income, nice family, nice home in suburbia. And a smart career change decision.

Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground.
