Quote from: Bill B on Today at 05:17:18 PMI'm getting excited. It's going to be a busy month.  The wife has a fundraising benefit for Teen Challenge. Then we celebrate her birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary.  I still need to make space in the freezer, just in case 😉.  I still need to pick up 1 rod.

Bill

Bill what rod? And what reel is going on it?

If you can find a through wired sinker you won't need the safety leash to the treble hook.

I know I'm late to the party but I have 58. Probably about 75 reels to go with them. I'm a novice collector. I do have 2 20" drill presses though. I had 4 but gave 2 to my son. Good old American iron. He got a Rockwell and a Delta (plus a bench top Delta) and I kept a Delta and a Powermatic (plus a bench top Delta). Yes, I used to collect (hoard) machinery and tools.

The eBay seller in the UK that sells the metal oscillation block is username spike-nigel

I bought one from him in 2021 via his eBay listing and it cost me about $29.  I have not seen him posting items on eBay for a while

I've always wondered whether the white plastic kitchen cutting board material would work as a DIY material for this oscillation block. It seems like sufficiently durable material, but may be difficult to get the exact dimensions and alignment when drilling the thru holes

I'll look into it, thanks.

Quote from: Paul9591 on May 16, 2024, 10:08:26 PMA bit odd in some respects, but fairly well known reels that I have in my collection.
Certainly Mepps has to be fairly high up on the quirky list, moreso the Super Meca, but I don't have one of those yet, so I've posted my 1936 Baby Vamp and 1950..ish Super Vamp,

Here's the Super Meca breakdown. It's quite an interesting reel to dig into.  ;D

Thanks for that excellent tutorial on the Super Meca stripdown and rebuild.

All I can say is...Wow!! What an interesting assembly!

If (hopefully) I can eventually lay my hands on one, that information will be invaluable!

That Super Meca is an amazing machine. I remember them from years ago and always thought they were the coolest looking reel. Hats off to you for tackling it and sharing it. It's a reel that begs for a tutorial.

Quote from: akfish on Today at 06:56:07 PMOne potential problem when you reassemble: The main gear on some of those very old Senators had grooves to hold the "ears" on the metal drag washers that were too short to hold both of the eared drag washers in a 5-stack drag. A new gear would solve the problem, or you could resemble the reel with only one eared drag washer -- which would reduce effective drag. Or you could just stack up a couple HT-100 washers so they are the same thickness as the original drag washers. Again, this reduces the drag.
Or get super bold and drill the ear-grooves down deeper? I've done it on other reels.

Daiwa / Brake collars for Saltist BG 4...
Last post by retiredandfishing - Today at 07:09:33 PM
Customer wants larger brake collars for his Saltist BG40H reel.  Wondering if anyone would know where to get heavier brake collars for this reel.  I think the original reels came with a package of lighter to heavier brake collars (3 weight sizes).  Possibly the ones from the 50H would work.  There are two per side.  Part numbers are B35-2701 and B35-2801.

Thanks, Steve
