Ok I'm talking out my spray nozzle here but I had an idea re: detail work. Why brush it on? Couldn't you dump/spray/put a ton of powder on and brush off the excess before baking? I'm usually missing something.

The joker looks cool though.

I tore into it this evening and just as I suspected--dried grease. I think this reel will clean up fine, and it will be catching fish right away. Takedown was a breeze, I even got to play with my c-clip pliers for the first time in awhile.

Fred, I am interested in the metal spool. It'd be nice for mono, and just to have a spare. Let me know how much it'd cost to procure and ship!

 Yes indeed Chris

...and for those that dont know Chris, he has a absolutely amazing collection of rare pre war penn reels, and also penn memorabilia. He is a rock star on the ORCA website, where all the big time reel collectors gather to share their knowledge and show some of the jaw dropping reels from days gone by

Love the 150 and 145. All of them, really.

Cost effectiveness i.e., needing only to change the top portion of braid if you've ever had to cut your line back due to abrasion from a long fight, or just from shore fishing over rough ground.

I don't think I need any hot-rodding for my 180s, since they will be used primarily as catfish and carp reels. I'm a relative beginner, so this is just a fun learning project to see if I can get 2 nice 180s out of the two broken 180s and one cheap 155 I bought, plus an extra plastic spool I got from Randy.

However, I don't think I will be able to resist further hot-rodding my 150 or maybe getting a 146 and hot-rodding that.

The 150 so far has carbon fiber drag washers, Newell frame, Newell stand, and Newell spool. The steel gear sleeve is not in stock at Cortez Conversions or I probably would have done that as well. Then I could add the Bryan Young drag stack and see if I could find steel gears, etc.
