Look hard and you may be able to decipher some neat MN fall landscape color in the background of some of these photos but the subject in the forefront of most of them is what I love about fall (great fishing).

My wife and best friend, Bonnie, with her (PB) 10# northern.

Bonnie with, at the time, her (PB) 4# smallmouth, her later (PB) 5# smallmouth and me with a 4.5# smallmouth.

A few a the really nice walleyes we caught during the trip.

:o  And a visiting neighbor.  ???

North Central MN is beautiful in late September thru mid October......the colors and the fishing!  ;D
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

This is actually a winter photograph, but nevertheless colorful.

I took the pic a couple years ago, and a friend enhanced it in the Lightroom photo editing software.

At one time this was a big hole in the ground from a strip mined coal quarry.  After it filled with water, it was stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, redear, fathead minnows, and grass carp.  I've caught my share of fish from this pond but always released them.

The Woman Lake Chain just south of Leech. I love that general triangular area, Brainerd to Bemidji to Grand Rapids!

I almost forgot how many great bodies of water MN has available to explore.  Leach, Winne, Gull, Pelican, Whitefish, Mile Lacs, Red Lakes, Lake of the woods.. options are nearly endless.

We had our annual late winter, and/or late summer trips to lake of the woods.  We would go up to bigger water with groups of guys several times a year.  A close friend of my dad's had a cabin on Bay Lake we would fish several times a year, I had a boat on Minnetinks thst I fished many days, along with other lakes around the area.  Then I would scour the MNDNR lake reports, and bath maps to go try to fish a different small lake every few weeks.  I had another friend with a cabin up in Alex, and one with a cabin in Detroit Lakes, so I explored many of the lakes in these areas.  Also had a girlfriend with a house on tye lake in Bemiji during college.  Also, explored the rivers along the North Shore of Lake Superior when attending UMD.  We also fished the great lakes for Salmon, and made annual trips to Port Eads, LA for offshore saltwater fishing.  Minnesota has to be one of the greatest states in terms of the diversity of lakes available to anglers.  A great place to grow up.

Keep sharing the fishing pics.

There are some nice lakes around Alexandria (MN) that are still mostly undeveloped, and that are among my favorites.  I'm thinking Fish Lake (southwest of Parkers Prairie), Indian Lake (southwest of Leaf Valley) and Lake Mina (just west of Alexandria), to name a few.  I wish I could fish Mina more often; a fair sized lake and has most fish species that are available in that area, including a few muskies.

Well here you go. First pic is a sunriser from the cabin and the second is the same place on October 15, 2009. My boat on the right and my dad's on the left. It was one cold week of fishing that year with a high of 44 F that whole week. We had snow 3 times and 3" the day of the pic. We went to the Casino a lot that year!  ::)

We intended to go fishing for smallmouth and redeyes today, but surprisingly it had rained more than I expected in the other end of the county.  All I had was ultralight tackle, some jigs, spinners, and spoons, all 1/4 oz or less.  Water was too muddy and current too swift for that, should have taken some heavyweight tackle and fished for catfish.  ::) Nevertheless, glad I took a camera.

More from yesterday.

I see the frost crystals on those plants.....

My wife took these two pics yesterday, she's been a photographer many years before I started.

This was taken about a mile from our house.  Canadian geese feasting on the last of the easy green stuff.  Soon they will be gone too!

I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.
